Alcohol Treatment Center in NYC
Comprehensive treatment for alcohol use disorder in the heart of Manhattan. Medical detox, inpatient, IOP, and aftercare.
Alcohol Use Disorder in New York City
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is one of the most common — and most under-treated — substance use disorders in New York City. Because drinking is so culturally normalized in NYC, many people don't realize their relationship with alcohol has crossed into dependence until withdrawal symptoms, legal issues, health problems, or family consequences force the issue.
Oasis Center treats alcohol use disorder with the same seriousness we treat opioid or stimulant addiction. That means medical detox when needed, full clinical assessment, evidence-based therapy, and long-term aftercare planning.
Signs You May Need Alcohol Treatment
- You drink more or longer than you intended
- You've tried to cut back or stop and couldn't
- You experience shakes, sweats, or anxiety when you haven't had a drink
- Drinking has caused problems with work, family, or health
- You need more alcohol than you used to in order to feel the effects
- You've had alcohol-related blackouts or memory loss
- You've continued drinking despite being told by a doctor to stop
If several of these sound familiar, you may have alcohol use disorder. That does not make you a bad person — it means you have a treatable medical condition.
Medical Alcohol Detox
Alcohol withdrawal is one of the few withdrawal syndromes that can actually be fatal without medical management. Seizures, delirium tremens, severe autonomic instability — these are real risks for heavy daily drinkers who stop abruptly. That's why we strongly recommend medical detox rather than home attempts.
Our detox program uses benzodiazepines on a scheduled taper to prevent seizures and delirium tremens, along with vitamin supplementation (especially thiamine to prevent Wernicke's encephalopathy), IV fluids if needed, and close nursing monitoring. Most alcohol detox stays are 5–7 days.
Therapy and MAT for Alcohol Use Disorder
After detox, we offer evidence-based therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, 12-step facilitation, and group therapy. For many patients, FDA-approved medications like naltrexone (Vivitrol), acamprosate, or disulfiram can dramatically reduce cravings and support long-term sobriety.
We also treat the mental health conditions that often drive alcohol use — depression, anxiety, PTSD — through integrated dual diagnosis care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is alcohol withdrawal really dangerous?
Yes — for heavy daily drinkers, alcohol withdrawal can cause seizures and delirium tremens, which can be fatal. Medical detox is the safest way to stop.
Do I have to quit forever?
Most clinical evidence supports abstinence for people with diagnosable alcohol use disorder. However, the goal of treatment is to give you the tools to make informed choices about your life. We'll work with you on realistic, sustainable goals.
Will I get Vivitrol or naltrexone at Oasis?
Yes, where clinically appropriate. Our medical team prescribes FDA-approved MAT for alcohol use disorder, including naltrexone (oral or Vivitrol injection), acamprosate, and disulfiram.
