Outpatient Drug Rehab in NYC
Flexible outpatient addiction treatment in Manhattan — keep working, keep your family life, and get the clinical care you need.
Outpatient Rehab — What It Is and Who It's For
Outpatient rehab is addiction treatment that does not require living at the facility. You attend therapy sessions and clinical appointments during the day or evening, then return home. Outpatient care is appropriate for people who are medically stable, have a supportive living environment, and can maintain safety outside of a 24-hour facility.
Outpatient is not a lesser form of treatment — it's the level of care most people eventually step down to, and for many patients, it's the right starting point.
Levels of Outpatient Care at Oasis Center
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
PHP is the most intensive outpatient level — typically 5–6 hours per day, 5 days per week. Patients go home at night but spend most of their day at the facility. Learn more about PHP.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP is typically 9–12 hours per week of clinical programming, often scheduled in the evenings or early mornings to accommodate work. This is the most common level of outpatient care for working professionals. Learn more about IOP.
Standard Outpatient
Standard outpatient is individual therapy and group therapy on a weekly or twice-weekly basis — usually as a step-down from IOP or as a long-term recovery support.
Can You Work While in Outpatient Rehab?
Yes — and most of our outpatient patients do. Our IOP and standard outpatient schedules are designed to accommodate working professionals, with evening and early morning groups available. If your job is compatible with your recovery (not a major trigger, not requiring active substance use), we will help you maintain it through treatment.
For some patients, especially those whose jobs contribute to their substance use, we may recommend a short-term leave. But in the majority of cases, outpatient treatment is the pathway that protects both your recovery and your career.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I still need detox if I'm doing outpatient?
If you're physically dependent on alcohol, opioids, or benzos, yes — you'll need medical detox before outpatient. We can coordinate a brief inpatient detox stay and then transition you to outpatient.
How long is outpatient treatment?
IOP typically runs 6–12 weeks. PHP is typically 2–4 weeks. Standard outpatient can continue as long as clinically appropriate — months or years in some cases.
What if I relapse during outpatient?
We adjust the level of care. That might mean a step back up to PHP or inpatient, or it might mean intensifying the outpatient plan. Relapse is information, not failure.
